The hotel is not located in a very good area so do you research before booking. Upon entering the hotel it is very pleasant and welcoming. The staff were friendly enough but were not very knowledgeable in guiding us around the local area or giving suggestions on restaurants etc. The small bar area is pleasant but very quite. On New Years Eve it seemed that the staff's friends were hanging around most of the night with some noticeable tension which was not very professional. The breakfast offering was sufficient, pastries, cold meat, cheese, fruit, cereal and a small selection of hot food. We had booked the suite. The room was nice and spacious and had a large bathroom with a lovely large bath and nice powerful shower, and a separate WC. There was plenty of storage space. The main bed was comfortable but the spare bed not so. The bathroom shower was nice and powerful with various modes. When exiting the shower on the first day I was greeted with a bathroom flooded with water, a few minutes longer and the water would have spilled over into the bedroom. I gathered all the towels in the room and began soaking up all the water. It was New Years Weekend and understand that no maintenance team were available. The reception staff kindly brought up plenty of extra towels and tried to attend to the shower but could not find any problem. I drew his attention to the larger gaps in the shower door seals. He returned after an hour with the maintenance guy on video call. They conducted some simple test to run the water in an empty shower and the concluded everything was fine. I think it is fairly obvious to conclude that running water in an empty shower will have a different outcome than whilst someone is showering where the door had an inadequate seal (not that I expected him to take a shower in our room). The 2nd day I had lined the entire shower area with multiple towels to capture any escaping water and ran the shower on half the intensity. The towels got soaked but the remainder of the bathroom was fine, unfortunately on the 3rd day I did not have sufficient spare towels to line the shower in the same way and despite running the shower on a less intensity, the bathroom was once again flooded. The reasons for not providing the hotel with a higher score was due to the cleaner calling our room despite have the Do Not Disturb sign showing. First with a couple of faint knocks which I ignored as I was just waking up followed a few minutes later with a phone call which woke my daughter up. This, as well as the quality of the spare bed and the flooding of the bathroom turned a potentially good stay to an average stay.
Brilliant friendly reception team - thank you for the cultural and history lesson of Belgium. Currently road\transport work being carried out on the roads surrounding the hotel - but could not hear any noise at all from the lobby or rooms. All rooms that we booked were clean & comfortable with no issues at all - A great city break hotel to stay in with good restaurants and about 15 minute walk to the Grand Place
