The service is excellent! From the airport transfer service, to the excellent cleanliness, tasty breakfast, wonderful amenities in my room with a balcony--everything was fantastic. The location is right in the middle of Pelourinho. I'd stay again anytime.
UPDATE TO OWNERS COMMENTS: The shower should have been fixed before arrival, does no one check the rooms? We stand by that the toilet button should not be so difficult to push, never said it did not work. We were also not told the water was drinkable, only when the water started coming brown from the taps due to an issue, that is when we were informed it was filtered and drinkable, strange timing but we were given 2 drinks to compensate for the brown water - thank you for that. Coffee/Nespresso in every other hotel room in Brazil was included and we stayed in a range of hotels. I have worked in the industry for many years and no hotel we have stayed at did not offer this complimentary. It felt very cheap. If the pastries/bread are made daily they are not kept fresh. I also did not proclaim to know that you kickback from the restaurants, I said I thought you might because other restaurants were much better and less expensive than what was recommended. This is common practice in many places so it is not unheard of and a true possibility. We stand by our comments about your restaurant. If more fruit etc. is a possibility for the breakfast, perhaps this should be explained to your guests rather than on an “only if they ask for it” basis. We do not prefer buffets. As for the light, if there were blackout curtains then it’s true, we did not see them. A first in any hotel we have stayed in. For the sound, everything was closed completely and there was still noise from the streets and construction. We did enjoy our stay but felt there were several things that fell below common standards. ORIGINAL: For the amount that is charged there are certain things that are expected… especially for a “4*” hotel. Coffee in the room is NOT included and is $8R per Nespresso pod (see picture). Also one small bottle of water is provided per stay. Seems very cheap of the owner as we have never seen a hotel charge for this anywhere else in Brazil or anywhere else we have stayed in the world. The shower in the room is quite terrible. The water from the rain shower has very little pressure and what water does come out goes in every other direction (see video). We had to use the “waterfall” water to wash ourselves which was not ideal. It also did not look like the shower head had been cleaned in quite some time. The button to flush the toilet is mounted on the wall and takes a lot of force to use. I cannot see an older person being able to flush the toilet as you need a lot of strength. The room is VERY bright in the morning as there are no black out curtains so be prepared to wake up early (see picture). The room is also not soundproof so you will hear quite a bit. For us there was construction sounds every morning and you could hear loud music into the night. The bed is very large and is 2 double beds put together. It was quite comfortable. This is the reason for the 3* rating otherwise it would have been lower. The restaurant food is basic at best and not very good. For breakfast you get a piece of papaya. A piece of pineapple and a piece of melon, very dry/old/stale cakes and the bread was very hard and I think it was reused from table to table. Coffee, a yogurt pod, 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese are also given. We ordered dinner once and it took over an hour to get our food… we were the only ones in the restaurant. Overall would not recommend eating there, there are far better and less expensive restaurants very close by. The taste of the food from the restaurants they recommend was not that great and they were also more expensive. I think that they may have a deal with those places and that is why they are recommended to you. We would not stay here again although the staff were all very friendly and helpful. They are the other reason for the 3* review or it would have been less as well. If you do book here, don’t book in advance. If we waited to book on the day we arrived the cost of the room would have been less per night. (We paid over $1,300 CAD for 4 nights). We booked about 2 months in advance.
