My return to Decameron Galeón, nearly 20 years after my honeymoon, left me with mixed feelings during our second visit for a family vacation. While the memories from my initial stay were positive, the current state of the hotel left much to be desired. The overall quality of the hotel seems to have declined, particularly in the realm of all-inclusive offerings. Soft drinks dominate the drink selection, and apart from a decent piña colada, the cocktails were disappointing. Missing amenities like cappuccino and limited availability of milk or creamer for coffee added to the beverage-related letdowns. The ice cream station's restricted hours made it challenging for guests to indulge, with narrow opening times causing frustration. Similar disappointments surfaced during lunch at the main restaurant, where insufficient seating and untimely closure led to a lack of access to available food. The beachside snack options were subpar, offering only hotdogs, hamburgers, and pizza of low quality. The remote location of the hotel posed another challenge, limiting safe exploration outside its confines. Recreational activities in the pool were notably absent during the morning, and the outdated activity board misinformed guests about scheduled events. A promised cocktail-making workshop failed to materialize, and karaoke timings were inaccurately posted. Despite these setbacks, the evening meals at the reserve restaurants were a redeeming feature, offering delightful cuisine, albeit served with limited wine portions and no refills. An on-site infirmary was appreciated, providing special meals for a speedy recovery from potential water-related illnesses. Unfortunately, a less pleasant surprise awaited us in the form of a dead cockroach discovered in the restaurant under our table. The villa room, while spacious and comfortable, suffered from noise issues due to its proximity to the beachside evening show. We had to rearrange sleeping beds to the back room to escape the disturbance. The current state of Hotel Decameron Galeón falls short of expectations. While certain aspects of the experience were enjoyable, various disappointments, including service inconsistencies and quality issues, hinder my recommendation for this establishment.
