Like many others, I didn't actually stay at the hotel, but I have frequented their restaurant on at least three occasions. The atmosphere is gorgeous and representative of Antigua as a Spanish colony. Service is always top tier, with friendly and attentive staff. I recommend their ceviche to start. As a big guy, my go to dish is their sirloin steak. 12+oz of juicy sirloin, cooked to your liking, accompanied with their freshly prepared sides. Also, grab some freshly made tortillas; it's authentic and they only cost like $2. If I had to choose one restaurant in Antigua, Posada Don Rodrigo can't be beat.
The place is old and in mint condition. From my understanding the place is 300 years old or at least parts of it is. Cons no AC in the rooms, wifi is weak which was expected the structure is made of brick, plaster. Any room that has a street view on a Saturday night you won’t fall asleep until 12:30am because it’s a town full of Tourist looking to get drunk at bars or nightclubs the hotel is on a busy street half a block away from the arch, I’ve been here before and things don’t die down until 12:30am-1am Pros: old style furniture, decor and staff is on point with everything. My family of eight were treated like superstars! I called the front desk at 620am for a warm glass of milk for my daughter and they came running. It was done under a minute. They have free parking if your a guest. When I first pulled up I asked one of the employees where could I find parking I was surprised for him to say that they own the parking across the street and it’s free if your staying at the hotel. He asked for my name and said I’ll be back with an update if your rooms are ready. It was an hour before check in and two of the three rooms were ready. To my surprise he showed up with two others to carry all our personal belongings. Check in through Expedia was a breeze everything was paid for all I had to do was sign two papers. The keys to the room now that’s an adventure! They are old giant steel keys at first it’s impossible to use but by bedtime we were pros. Some people complained that it should be cards or something modern👎your in Antigua it’s an old place, if it’s not your thing don’t even bother going there. Food and entertainment at the restaurant. Everything was great! The portions are big and the menu has many things to try. Is it expensive? Yes! But then again it’s Antigua everything is expensive! If your traveling on a budget don’t even bother showing up go somewhere else. The music with the marimba and the Moros dancing was 👍 At 2am we did wake up to the sound another guest possibly drunk trying to force open our door with the steel key I asked who it was..no answer. I called the desk they answered on the first ring I told them was going on they immediately showed up outside of our room and led the guest to the right room called me back within a minute apologizing for the inconvenience.
