Secreted away among the rows of ordinary hotels around Lake Garda is a little gem of a hotel called Val di Sogno. Having had a recommendation from friends we arrived with high expectations - and were not disappointed. The staff are friendly and attentive, but not to the point of being intrusive. The hotel is impeccably clean, and if a speck of dust falls it is rapidly and quietly swept away. The food is exquisite and the menu is large enough to offer variety and small enough for Chef to produce culinary excellence. All manner of dietary requirements for allergies are catered for without the customary rolling of eyes when you ask for Gluten or Lactose free foods. Breakfast caters not only for the continental palette but also for English tastes. Our room was beautifully appointed and the views across the Lake are stunning. As a tea drinker I noted there was no kettle in the room, and within minutes one appeared, complete with a selection of teas. There is an outdoor pool with a bar area accessible from the pool and gardens which are neatly kept and the staff grown herbs and vegetables which are used by chef in the meals cooked at the hotel. There is access directly to the Lake, and because there is no public parking anywhere near the hotel the beach area is quiet and feels like it is for the exclusive use of the residents. As this is an adults only hotel catering mostly for couples, the hotel has a peaceful feel at all times, and you genuinely feel that nothing is too much trouble for the staff to arrange. The staff have a sense of pride in the hotel and want to make sure that your stay is the best it can possibly be. There are limitless activities within close walking or driving distance and the whole area is packed with restaurants and bars to suit every taste.
