We ended up at this hotel because the hotel’s sister property, Palazzo Marzoli, dumped us here after cancelling our reservation. The hotel is in Positano, which is convenient. However, it’s located on the upper level of town & there are lots of stairs up & down to get anywhere. The property is extremely dated. There’s old carpet & dim lighting in all the hallways. The rooms are dated, basic, with minimal amenities. The beds are ok & air conditioning was appreciated. Included breakfast also ok. The staff speaks minimal English. I did not feel like they were very helpful. Pool is huge, but so old. The entertainment at the pool is a gentleman that plays loud, heavy metal music while he practices air boxing. It’s extremely disruptive. The landscaping looks wild & semi-abandoned. This place is depressing. If you start your trip here, you’ll soon forget it. But, if you’re ending your trip here, it’s not a good last memory. We were ripped off paying $1,600 for 2 nights. It’s a 2 star hotel.
Hotel Royal was an okay stay, but we couldn’t wait to leave. We have been traveling through Italy for weeks now and it was my least favorite stay of everywhere we’ve been. The bathroom of the room we stayed in was okay, kind of tight, but not really an issue. The elevators feel like they will stop working at any moment and it can be somewhat of a maze trying to navigate through the halls to get to the correct floor, but again, not the biggest deal. The rooms, however, are terribly outdated and dusty (we saw dust coming from our bed and even the A/C unit). There was this funky, wet smell that was in the room. The pool, which was a selling point for us when booking, wasn’t even open and was filled with greenish-blue water and someone painting the entire time. I will say, the view from the room was nice though. The hotel also happens to be 10-11 mins (via Google maps/maps) from the main beach, but it is a long trek down and a long trek up - could be roughly 400-500 steps, so just beware if you don’t have the strongest lower body strength. Personally, I would not stay here again and would pay for a more expensive stay with better amenities and proximity to the beach. The staff was at this hotel were nice though.
