NH Collection Merida Paseo Montejo

NH Collection Merida is located in Paseo 60, a stylish venue with nightly live entertainment, several very good restaurants, and a trendy small upscale food court. I will likely stay there again because of the location, but the hotel itself was disappointing compared to others in this chain that I've stayed at in Spain. Here are details:||ROOM AND COMMON AREAS: The room was cool and beds comfortable. However it wasn't that clean, and the bathroom trashcan had a rusty piece of broken metal as the pedal to open it was missing. There was peeling paint on the ceiling. There was only 1 Nespresso pod and 1 small bottle of water for 2 people, and these were not replenished. Mini bar is cold but empty. The rooftop pool, gorgeous in pictures, is much smaller than expected but still nice. The rooftop bar doesn't look like it has been operational for a long time. The lobby bar seems open but I never saw anyone available to serve. Breakfast area was bright and cheery, and breakfast was very good. There are no other breakfast options in this area so definitely get the breakfast plan (although our room # was only checked 2 of 3 days, so perhaps this is included for everyone and I just paid extra for no reason).| |CHECK IN: I arrived with a reservation from Booking.com and they had no record of it despite my having a written confirmation. The front desk person worked valiantly to sort it out and thankfully there were rooms (and they honored the price on my Booking.com confirmation), but it took an hour -- yes a full hour -- despite there being no other customers. She was alone at 8 pm and didn't speak English (which was fine for me, but others wouldn't have gotten this problem solved). Prior to check in I had requested the airport shuttle online but never heard back from them. I tried to call the hotel when I arrived at the airport but no one answered (clearly because there was only 1 person working), so I had to take a cab.||Finally, I should add for those with kids or who like to turn in early that the nightly entertainment makes rooms on the side that overlooks the venue, like mine, noisy until 10 or 11 pm. If you don't want to experience this, request a room street side, which would be quieter.
