Tongariro River Retreat - Hostel

We had a wonderful time at the retreat, the common area's are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The rooms, while eclectic are spacious and clean -- this was the only mold-free hostel shower I saw on my two weeks traveling the North Island. The highlight of our stay was the very gregarious owner, Ian, who made us feel very welcome. He had great recommendations for sights in the area, and always jumped at the chance to help us out. We also noticed the thought and effort he puts into building connections between his guests. As a bonus, they have a very cute little Cockatiel named Harry :) We will certainly be returning once we're fit enough to tackle the Tongariro Crossing.
