Paid for a day pass and here is my experience.. Food was a couple of choices per course, so a little limited. The starter was a choice of soup or mixed salad with pineapple and cheese. Main was chicken adobo or fish. Dessert was tropical delight which was a tropical style cake or chocolate cake. Both sounded good to us! When we arrived they said that type of salad had ran out, but they could give me just a mixed salad. I said that's fine. They then give me (no word of a lie) a few pieces of lettuce on a plate and 2 slices of tomato - totally DRY! No sauce, no oil, no nothing. Just simply lettuce & a bit of tomato on a plate. I mean it was actually rather funny it was that bad. Not sure when I became a rabbit. The soup was nice according to my partner, so that's something. The main wasn't too bad and the dessert saved the whole meal, it was quite nice! Juices are just a can of juice, not fresh at all Before food, we went to the gym and I was in-between sets I went on my phone to check my notes for which set I wanted to do next. The person at the gym reception came waltzing in and told me I'm not allowed to use my phone to call anybody (which I wasn't). There's signs on the door saying no music to be played, that's fair enough, and I know how annoying it is when people sit on their phones and hog machines, but I wasn't doing this either. We were literally the ONLY ones in the gym. I was simply looking at my notes to see what set I wanted to do next as I couldn't remember what I'd written down. I couldn't believe I was told I wasn't allowed to even do that?! I'd understand if I was holding up equipment or playing music, but I wasn't and it was only me and my partner in there?! I was gobsmacked quite honestly. I wouldn't return here if you paid me. Absolutely ruined my workout vibe and I ended up walking out and I ended up having to stretch on the COLD HARD FLOOR outside the gym Whilst my partner was inside by HIMSELF, there was still nobody else in there! I'm not quite sure what the issue is with me looking at my notes inside the gym whilst only myself and my partner are in there?! Who was I harming?? It was one of the MOST BIZARRE experiences I have had in SE Asia in 7 months of full time travel! Don't bother going here, not worth the money, I've stayed in way better places for a lot less money.
I wrote this review for trip advisor and couldn’t be bothered changing anything. Six years ago, my family and I had a delightful experience at Plantation Bay in Mactan, Cebu. The staff were exceptionally helpful, and there was an abundance of mostly free activities. However, our recent visit was marred by a drastic decline in service quality and overall experience. The most striking issue was the staff's attitude. They were consistently surly, often appearing irritated, and even engaged in arguments and shouting at guests for using mobile phones. While I understand the intent behind restricting mobile use, the execution was poorly handled and overly aggressive. For instance, while using a workout app in the gym, I was rudely interrupted by staff, despite the gym's TV loudly playing CNN. This contrasts sharply with the serene environment we once enjoyed. The decline extended to dining experiences as well. Despite the high cost of staying at Plantation Bay, breakfast was a chaotic scene. Guests had to endure long waits, only to find scarce food options once inside. This was particularly disappointing considering the resort's multiple idle kitchens during breakfast hours. Furthermore, amenities that were free during our last visit, like kayaks and paddle boards, now came with a hefty fee. The once enjoyable water slides were closed, with no explanation given, suggesting long-term neglect. Even simple tasks like hailing a taxi were problematic. We were misled by staff about additional taxi charges, a claim easily disproved by our own experience. Our experience at the resort's Spanish Tapas/Italian restaurant, Palermo, was equally frustrating. The dishes were excessively sweet, and when we sent them back, they were returned with unconvincing explanations about alterations made to the recipes. Overall, Plantation Bay has undergone a disappointing transformation. The once welcoming and vibrant resort now feels aloof and poorly managed. Every aspect of our stay was overshadowed by issues in customer care and guest experience, marking a significant and unfortunate departure from the quality we remembered.
