Summary: Clean, affordable budget hotel in a great location, but with some inconveniences that will likely not make me return . Review: I stayed at Hej for 5 nights, and am visiting for family and business. I stayed here before sometime ago in 2018 or 2019 and had a pleasant stay, and the location was great. So I decided to give it another shot. I got a windowless room, which I'm ok with (I'm not claustrophoic). Room is pretty basic, but is generally clean which I liked (for the price). I saw them using sticky rolling cleaners for the floors, which helps my OCD-ness on dust. Not very soundproof (can hear doors closing in hallway), but I'm not a picky sleeper when it comes to noise. Unfortunately, there were some problems with my stay, due to two reasons: :::Slow internet speed::: It varied wildly during my stay. And since I was remote working, this was quite a headache especially when I had video calls. Sometimes it would be good, but most of the time the speed clocked as low as 0.41mbps download rate, which is difficult to work with. :::Not enough cleaning staff::: When housekeeping staff cleaned by room, they were able to turn it around quickly. But due to the sheer numbers of rooms, the time window of them getting to your room can vary. Many times, I left the room at 11am, and my room would not be done till around 3-4pm. Please keep in mind, I see that the housekeeping staff is working very hard/fast. So perhaps consider a system or more cleaning staff to help make it more efficient. But if you're patient, there is an outside area with some small snacks and beverages to help you wait it out. In conclusion, this is a budget hotel, so you can't expect 4 or 5 star facilities or service. But if wifi is unstable, it's not super friendly to business travelers like me. I would give Hej another shot, since I come back every 2-3 months, but at least the wifi stability needs to be addressed as a basic requirement.

Hej Hotel is located on the 7th floor of a building. It is just 3 stops away from Taipei main station. Nearest station is Zhongxiao Fuxing along the Bannan line (Blue line) with the exit to the metro station just located in front of the hotel building (Exit 11). Check-in was fast and the receptionist were helpful. We chose a Business room with windows. Our room had two large floor to ceiling windows & was considered spacious with enough room for me and my friend to comfortably open both our luggage without feeling cramped. Clean and modern room with nice & cool air conditioning and fast wifi. The TV had many channels both local and international. The bathroom was large with a bathtub. Only thing was the floor was wet and a little slippery after every shower as the water would splash out. And our washbasin was located within the hotel room but just outside the bathroom. Also there wasn’t a cupboard for our clothes. Only a few hangers to hang your clothes. ||Daily Breakfast was included and consisted of bread, pastries, ham & cheese, milk, juice, fruits and also local Taiwanese porridge. It was served at the lobby area. There was also sweets, biscuits, tidbits, coffee/tea/cola available at the reception area after breakfast hours. ||There is a security guard at the first floor lift lobby of the building even until late at night so we felt safe coming back late. ||If you’re carrying heavy luggage, you can go to Exit 14 of Zhongxiao Fuxing station which has an escalator. Once you reach the street level, walk to your right (don’t need to cross the road). After walking past CosMed, Carrefour supermarket and McDonald’s, you will see the entrance of Hej Hotel around one block later. Less than 5 minutes walk. Exit 11 is much nearer directly in front of the hotel but has lots of stairs. Overall we stayed for 5 nights and had a pleasant stay here. Plus point was the proximity to the metro station.
