Getting the river view is a request I would ask for. The river is a nice background while one is in their room, drinking coffee. The hotel is older and does need updating, however, they maintain the location well. The rooms are what you expect for a three star hotel. Basic amenities, comfortable, etc. There is a microwave, mini fridge, and individual coffee maker. The TV is a good size and there are two sinks: one outside the bathroom and one inside the bathroom. Housekeeping did miss a couple of items beneath bathroom sink. The floor didn’t seem swept well so maybe that’s why Mr. cotton swab and Mrs. cotton Ball were intrusive during bath time. The water heater did go out during our stay but was repaired promptly. I came here with a guest. It does suck both of our rooms were literally opposite of one another. It wasn’t busy and would have been nice to be closer to one another. Also, the first floor does entail going down the elevator and there are multiple hotel admin office rooms adjacent to the guest hotel rooms. That didn’t bother me but may be something someone would prefer not to see.
We stay here every time we come to Durango, and will continue doing so. Our family has a tradition of riding the polar express at Christmas time, so we always come at least once a year. We adore the Santa rooms and have found that each room we have stayed in has been consistently clean and maintained. I have noticed that many of the other reviews on Google mention that the hotel is older. To me, it presents as a classic, and older hotel that maintains the classic vibe, but does so in a way that keeps things in good repair. I might agree that they are due for some renovations soon, but I hope the place doesn’t loose its classic, and rustic feeling…. It makes it feel safe and homey, and not generic at all. The staff go above and beyond. We encountered an issue at the attached restaurant with very slow service, but that was addressed promptly. The room service is great and the food is superb. I wouldn’t look elsewhere, and the river view is amazing.
