I generally love Hampton Inns and Hilton hotels in general for their reliability. I was very disappointed in this experience. 1) My digital key wasn't working in the elevator (probably user error) so I asked for a key at the front desk. The front desk staff asked me my room number and gave me a key without confirming my name, asking for identification, or anything else. As a woman traveling alone, this made me feel extremely unsafe. I considered trying to find another hotel to stay in, but I had a scheduled event to go to and wouldn't be done until late and felt uncomfortable trying to find a new hotel to check in so late. Not to mention I didn't have the money to pay for a second hotel. I did let the woman working the front desk the next morning know that I was uncomfortable with how this was handled. 2) The room was very dirty, including the shower which had hair on the shower walls from the previous guest. I had to take a quick shower and leave, so I showered anyways and let the front desk staff know on the way out that it did not look like the bathroom had been properly cleaned. He said, "remind me in the morning" to have it cleaned... 3) The hotel in general was not clean. The hallway carpet was littered with small pieces of trash, clumps of hair, etc. The carpet was stained and the common areas are very worn. I wasn't spending a lot of time in the hotel itself, but it definitely did not have a clean and welcoming environment. For the price of this hotel, I'm very upset at the level of service and cleanliness this location provides. Most of all, however, it was very frustrating to feel unsafe as a solo traveler in a strange city. If the front desk staff is not trained to properly verify people before giving them room keys, I am hesitant to stay at another Hilton property in the future. The location was fine - it wasn't nearly as walkable to places as I was led to believe from the description but it's very close to the bus station, which allowed me to easily get to Las Olas Blvd and the water.
