Big compliments to the entire staff here, starting with Sylvester, who set the tone for my first stay at this hotel. He provided great service, and well informed me of the area, and the hotel. The rooms were nice, and clean. The food was good. The location was good. I'll be back.
I knew it might be a little rough when this place changed ownership and name about a month after our reservation was placed. We still had a room, but it turned out to not be the one with the sofa like we had booked, and it cost about $60 more per night than I had reserved under Hotel Indigo (the former company). Service was great, especially house keepers. Location was great, it's right on the street car line and very walkable. We walked to the Southern Food and Beverage Museum and Magazine St with no problem, and there are cafes and diners a short walk away. The rooms need remodeling. The shower is very nice, but there is no vent fan so it becomes very steamy and you can see the moisture trails on the wall. Not having a fan is also rough when the bathroom only has a barn door that doesn't close all the way, perpetually leaving a 6 inch gap to the bathroom... 💀 Not much sound proofing either, but it's a city. The restaurant dinner was not good. The rice in the gumbo came out crunchy and undercooked. I wasn't expecting Commander's Palace lol, but I expected the rice to be edible. Walk down to Please-U Diner or Avenue Coffee for breakfast instead, and if you just want a quick bite of food the grocery store or Igor's Bar will unfortunately be better. I imagine they'll improve over time but next visit I'll probably check out another place in the neighborhood.
