First off, I want to thank the staff for a special stay at Le Sands Oceanfront. As I will explain not only was the hotel an amazing value, but everything from the staff to the facilities was top notch. Checking in blew me away. Upon my taxi arriving to the front I was greeted by two doormen, one who took my bag and the other who opened the door. I went to the front desk, told them I had a reservation, and then they asked for my passport and to go sit down in the cafe area. In sitting down I was greeted by a lady named Misa, who coordinated arrivals and activities for guests. In my ten days stay she was outstanding, always pleasant, very helpful, and genuinely enjoyed her job. In joining me at the cafe she had the cafe staff bring a welcome drink and hot towel, and then we chatted while the front desk was handling my reservation. When the reservation was complete she showed me to my room, and inside explained the minibar, how to activate the power in the room, etc etc. Of all the hotels I've stayed in my career, and I've stayed at luxury hotels, the welcome and reservation process was by far the best. They even had a welcome fruit basket and plate full of treats in the room. Truly special, and I was blown away. The stay was just as great, and I'll start with the room. Getting into the room was activated by a key, and in the ten days during my stay it worked every time in all locations. I've never had that happen, even at 5 star hotels. The bed was extremely comfortable, so much so that some days I slept longer just to enjoy the bed. The room was spacious, with the bed (a king), a small soft overlooking the balcony and beyond, a desk to work, a refrigeration to cool drinks, a closet with enough space, and a safe to store items while I was gone. The TV and internet worked quite well. The TV had a great mix of foreign and local channels, with Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Italian, and English channels, and a few good movie, news, and sports channels. I was able to watch some of my favorite movies and sporting events there. The internet was never down, and worked very well. I streamed a few shows, and there was no problem. The balcony was outstanding. There was enough room for two chairs and a small table, with enough width and length to not feel like you were standing on edge. The barrier was made of glass, which opened up a breathtaking view of the sea, of the Lady Buddha to the north and the rest of Da Nang to the south. It was nice to sit out there and listen to the busyness of the street below. The bathroom was spacious. The toilet was very good, the sink good, and the shower was outstanding. As far as the rest of the facilities, they were top-notch. My only slight complaint would be about the restaurant. The menu online was different than the menu provided, and other than the spring rolls I thought it was a bit overpriced. The location of the hotel was no problem for me, as I wanted something a little away from the main area. There were plenty of restaurants nearby, most very good, a market that sold items for a good price (they weren't just gouging tourists, though I did think some of the restaurant prices, especially for fish, shrimp and lobster was a bit high), and a kind older man who made great bahn mi sandwiches. I also like the location because it was right in front of the local neighborhoods. I used much of my time to walk through there....if you want to see more of real Vietnam, just venture a few blocks into the interior from the beach. I found some great restaurants, cafes, a good co-op market, and an amazing sushi restaurant. Another thing....don't worry about finding taxis in the area, as they are out in front of the hotel almost all hours of the night. The rates are metered, and at the most they charge 16K VND per km, and most in the 10-12K range. Five stars and an unforgettable, special experience all around, and I will return! Le Sands mirrors Vietnam's effort in building its prestige to the outside world. I was moved and deeply impressed.
